Healthy Lifestyle Life Lessons
I travel across world to study how people live long happy life diseases free.
They tend to not have diet restrictions, but still manage to not have bulgin waist lines, critical diseases i.e. diabetes, cancer, heart, alzemiers etc.
While there is no garunteed approach but there are patterns that can be observed and emulated here in USA.
Japan (Nov 2025 ~ Dec 2025)
When it comes to healthy living Japanese have it figured it out. On average, they live long (80+ yrs) relatively disease free, eat all kinds of meats, non vegan, vegetarian, fried foods, even sugar laden treats i.e. mochi, ice creams etc. And yet they are one of the most long living people. Here are some of the reasons .. simple yet impactful ways they have adopted healthier lifestyles.
Eat Less
They stop eating when they are 80% full and, let the food digest better
Walk More
Average Japanese walks about 20,000 steps a day.
Children as young as 4 yrs or adult 80+ yrs.
Active Lifestyle
Movement i.e. Tai chi regardless of age is the key. They are very mobile and keep body movements a top priority
No Benches to sit
Tokyo downtown has no benches. that forces one to walk till you need to sit, after long periods of time
No Carbohydrate restrictions
They eat rice, noodles, dumplings all made from wheat and white flour about 2/3 meals a day. Yet they are some of the skinniest people. The noodles, or dumplings made from flour that is freshly milled
Eat all the Meats
World famous KOBE beef, Organ meats, you name it they eat them all, and eat freshly natural all organic. no concept of antibiotics
Enjoy Life
They enjoy life. celebrate it, drink beer, drink wiskhey .. All high quality made from high quality ingredients. and they smoke too.
Eat Small Portions
Portion sizes are very small. A burger, is more like a slider. Pizzas are made on thin crust.
Locally Sourced Ingredients
Eat raw, i.e. sushi, veggies is a norm. Organic ingredients, freshly harvested, whether plants based or meats is the standard. There is no concept of perservatives
No furniture to sit
They sit on ground,. This forces them to sit and stand making good use of the legs. It is proven in research that healthy legs lead to healthy body. Hence a simple stand up and sit down from ground on your own with out the use of hands, strengthens the legs and body
Healthy Cooking
They boil the sausages, rather than frying. They boil they bacon instead of pan frying.
Respectful and Courteous
They respect others, live a No stress worry free lifestyle. They are very courteous to outsiders
No Trash Cans
There are no trash can in cities. That forces them to walk till you can discard the trash
Active Lifestyle
They hire Nutritionist for schools. All food served in school for children is freshly prepared daily, locally. sourced. The DnN carefully curate the menu to maximize nutrition
Fried , Yet Healthy
They use fresh oils to fry food. The Tonkatsu, or the Tempura are world famous. Yet Japanese people have lower instance of the heart problems. They use EVOO, not the highly processed Canola oils
